A back brace can relieve the acute back pain of a vertebral fracture by supporting the spine and distributing the weight of the body. A back brace will also prevent the spine from bending or twisting too far. A back brace should not be worn for too long or the muscles of the back will atrophy from lack of use and strong muscles are essential for supporting the spine. Bone loss also is accelerated during inactivity.

If you suffer from lower back pain then you know how difficult it is to do even the simplest daily tasks. Things like driving long distances or even sitting at work all day are excruciating! Now there is a brand new way to cure back pain instantly
The Slendertone ReVive Back Pain Relief Belt uses clinically proven Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation (TENS) technology and lumbar support to relieve pain associated with aching muscles in the lower back due to strain from exercise or normal daily activities. Safe and effective, the Slendertone ReVive Back Pain Relief Belt provides an immediate, non-invasive, drug-free pain relief system. The unit works by sending mild and comfortable pulses over the skin through adhesive GelPads that stimulate the nerves in your lower back.

Slendertone ReVive Back Pain Relief Belt

The Back Pain Relief System with TENS Belt Technology is a passive and noninvasive treatment for acute and chronic lower back pain. By using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), a light electrical impulse is sent into the muscle and delivers a pulse intermittently to stimulate the production of endorphins; these natural pain killers help relieve pain associated with sore and aching muscles. This TENS belt is designed to fit a waist up to 41″ and can be comfortably worn under clothing for optimum health benefits.

Many patients with back pain, leg pain, or weakness of the lower extremity muscles are diagnosed with a herniated disc. When a disc herniation occurs, the cushion that sits between the spinal vertebra is pushed outside its normal position. A herniated disc would not be a problem if it weren’t for the spinal nerves that are very close to the edge of these spinal discs.
Symptoms
When the spinal cord or spinal nerves become compressed, they don’t work properly. This means that abnormal signals may get passed from the compressed nerves, or signals may not get passed at all.
Approximately 90% of disc herniations will occur toward the bottom of the spine at L4- L5 (lumbar segments 4 and 5) or L5- S1 (lumbar segment 5 and sacral segment1), which causes pain in the L5 nerve or S1 nerve, respectively
Treatments
In most cases, if a patient’s low back and/or leg pain is going to get better after a lumbar herniated disc it will start to do so within about six weeks. While waiting to see if the disc will heal on its own, several non-surgical treatment options can help reduce the back pain, leg pain and discomfort caused by the herniated disc.
Physical Therapy’s main goal is to strengthen your core muscles and help relax the muscle around your herniated disc problem. A typical physical therapy session will start off with stretching and core muscle exercises. The core muscle exercises will help strengthen the muscles that surround your spine. Next, they will use the Tens Machine and a heating pad.
Chiropractic Therapy’s main goal is to manipulate the spine so that the disc releases just enough pressure off the nerve so that pain and numbness will alleviate. Most doctors will not recommend continuous stretching and cracking of the back.
Epidural injections are used to help reduce the inflammation of the herniated disc. The shot is not a pain killer. The shot contains a steroid, an anti-inflammatory drug, which will create separation of the disc and the nerve so that the pain and numbess can start to alleviate. The epidural shots work on some people and can be a one time procedure if the pinched nerve is caught early.

Lumbar Pillow it’s a specialized type of orthopedic pillow that provides vital support for the lower back when you’re sitting. By doing so it relieves pressure on the lumbar region of the spine.
At its most basic, a lumbar pillow is a simple rectangular item measuring around twelve inches by five inches and about two inches thick. This is the optimum size to support the lumbar region while sitting.
The stuffing is of key importance. It has to be a dense material to give the right support and not compact over time. And of course it needs to be soft enough to be comfortable when sitting against it for long periods.
Driving for a period of more than 15 minutes can affect the lumbar area. When you need to drive long distances on a regular basis, chances are that back ache will become a common issue with you, making your driving uncomfortable. Sliding in a lumbar pillow behind the lower back would help to support the lower back and give you maximum driving comfort. Driving long distances without this kind of support could have a permanent effect on your lower back.
For individuals recovering from a surgery or an injury, a back and lumbar support pillow can be a great addition to your healing journey because it provides lower back support and reduces the strain on the back. As non-stop resting and sleeping is required during the initial phase of recovery from many different types of surgeries or injuries, having to remain in such a position for long periods causes patients to experience all kinds of muscle tension and aches and discomfort in the back.

Lack of physical condition predisposes to back damage because it is not flexible enough. For this reason, maintaining a good physical form is essential for preventing back pain. Physical exercises for back are very effective in treating and controlling chronic low back pain and keeping a good long-term general physical condition. Strengthening of abdomen, back and leg muscles help to decrease their sensitivity, risk of back pain is diminished. Strong abdomen, back and legs support better the spine, reducing the pressure on spinal discs and preventing disks’ disease.

Key issue for strengthening back muscle is, paradoxically, engaging the abdominal muscles. Of course, alongside them, back muscles must work very well. Together, they create a “belt” muscle contraction that creates intra abdominal pressure, which will keep the column straight. An exercise is the abdominal pelvic flexion in the laying position.

Other useful exercises are:

1. Lie on your back with the knees slightly bent and feet stuck to the ground. Relax and contract the abdominal muscles, squeeze the lumbar back (“middle”) on the floor while contracting your buttocks and rising the pelvis as much as possible. Hold this position 10 seconds and then relax the muscles. Repeat 10 times.

2. Execute movements described above, and when you have the pelvis raised up, bring your right knee to chest, without helping yourself with the hands, then bring it down and make the same thing with the left leg and hold this position for 5 seconds. Repeat it 10 times.

3. on your back, with a leg fully stretched and with the knee locked (the other leg slightly bent, in a neutral position) start to pick up the hip joint with the lower back muscles contracted. Then bring the member down without touching the ground. Repeat 10 times. If you experience pain, the exercise should be interrupted; this has a role to strengthen back muscles

4. Keep the legs bent raised up until you can catch the knee, one knee in each hand. Move away your legs and pull your knees as close to the armpits. Pull both knees simultaneously. Relax to allow the arms to open up, but don’t let the knees down. Repeat the process of pulling. This exercise is designed to stretch the short strong back muscles.

5. Dr. Walter Meyers from the Veterans Medical Center in Hot Springs, South Dakota State recommends a simple exercise: patient lying on something hard and bent his feet up and down. Then relax and contract the hip muscles in coordination with inflection feet. Exercise is continued until the patient gets tired muscle is repeated 4 to 6 times per day. This is an exercise for leg muscles

Do not forget! Walking, swimming or walking through water can help maintain a healthy back and lead to a better oxygenation of the heart and other muscles which means health

People wearing a lumbar scoliosis brace are often suggested exercise to correct scoliosis. In most adults with previous scoliosis, moderate exercise is not harmful and is extremely important for maintaining healthy, supportive muscles, and preventing disk degeneration.
Bracing may cause discomfort. Physical activity may become more difficult because the brace presses against the stomach, making it difficult to breathe. Children may lose weight from the brace, due to increased pressure on the abdominal area.
The latest standard of brace construction is with CAD/CAM technology. With the help of this technology it has been possible to standardize the pattern-specific brace treatment.

Types of Lumbar Scoliosis Brace
1. Thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO): Used to correct the lateral (sideways) curve of the spine in scoliosis. Patients can wear this brace to correct spinal curves whose apex is at or below the eighth thoracic vertebra. The TLSO is an underarm brace, which means that it fits under the arm and around the rib cage, lower back, and hips. This brace extends from below the breast to the beginning of the pelvic area in the front and from below the shoulder blades to the tail bone in the back. This type of brace works by applying three-point pressure to the curve to prevent its progression. It forces the lumbar area to flex, which pushes in the abdomen and flattens the posterior lumbar curve.
2. Charleston Bending Brace
Charleston Bending Braces are for patients diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and occasionally for neuro muscular scoliosis.
The Charleston Bending Brace is molded to conform to the patient’s body while he or she is bent towards the convexity—or outward bulge—of the curve, the concept behind this design being that it “over-corrects” the curve during the eight hours the brace is worn. This lumbar scoliosis brace is also known as the nighttime brace, since it is used only while sleeping. The objective of the Charleston Bending brace is to biomechanically correct the scoliosis via stabilising, lateral shift and unbending forces (3-point pressure systems).
3. Cervico-Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral-Orthosis brace:
This lumbar scoliosis brace is popularly known as the Milwaukee brace, and is quite alike the TLSO brace. Additionally, it has a neck ring attached to the brace. It is more widely used to manage spinal curvature—e.g., scoliosis or kyphosis—in children who may need to wear it 23 hours/day for years. Milwaukee braces are often custom-made over a mold of the patient’s torso, but in some cases, it can be made from prefabricated parts

There are two types of kyphosis , which can appear both at children and adults:

1. Postural kyphosis-caused by improper posture and this can be corrected by modifying the patient’s lifestyle.

2. Structural kyphosis -determined by a modification of the anatomy, requiring medical or surgical treatment.

Some patients are born with a second type of kyphosis – congenital kyphosis. This is caused by abnormalities of the spine right from the birth -cifoza Scheuermann-when the front of the spine does not grow as fast as the posterioara one leading to a round look of the back. Children begin to develop the disease between 12-15 years, when the bones are developing.

CAUSES

Cifoza may occur after a fracture (posttraumatic kyphosis) or various diseases:

– Connective-tissue diseases, endocrine diseases
– Muscular dystrophy
– Vertebral infections
– Neurofibromatosis, Paget’s disease
– Polio, spine bifida, tumors.
-Degenerative diseases:
– Arthritis
- Degenerative-disc disease
- Osteoporosis

SYMPTOMS AND COMPLICATIONS

Cifoza can be present without symptoms, sometimes with persistent back pain, is seen as a change the appearance of the body. An easy cifoza – without symptoms – is detected only by routine medical examination.

When kyphosis is severe, complications can occur if the intervention is timely.
Complications that can develop from kyphosis include chronic back pain, deformities and progressive neurological and cardiopulmonary deficit;
Neurological complications: kyphosis may cause progressive loss of sphincter control, muscle weakness and hypoesthesia.
Cardiopulmonary complications: are often accused by the patients with kyphosis (restrictive lung disease)
